You feel a little shy about this, but the Nearsighted Librarian doesn't seem to notice. They draw a wonky shape on their napkin in juice and explain that it's the agents' symbol: the ring and sceptre that they seek to gain the upper hand over both the Dreamers and their counterparts from Prospit. They've spent a long time touring Skaia and the planets that orbit it, searching for clues as to the whereabouts of these powerful artifacts. You ask what do they actually do? The Nearsighted Librarian grins and says nobody knows except perhaps the Denizens of the Dreamers' planets, and they aren't telling.
This prompts a lengthy explanation of the Denizens: how Menfra once directed the weather to keep the Land of Wind and Ash verdant and temperate; how Nethuns guided the waters in the Land of Cascade and Bone to cut channels and irrigate the caverns; how Turms set banners on the mountainsides of the Land of Chasms and Tatters to guide those who would traverse them; how Takhas maintained the intricate mechanical systems that brought everything in the Land of Bedrock and Rust to where it needed to be. Now, for whatever reason, the Denizens can no longer do their jobs, and the lands they protect have fallen to ruin. Everyone hopes the Dreamers can set them right.
You ask if the Land of Bedrock and Rust was called that when the mechanical systems were still working. The Nearsighted Librarian isn't quite sure what you mean.
