The expatriate is from Myd Cuth, whose drones have always had a tradition of questing to the dream realms of Derse and Prospit. He liked Derse so much that he was planning to live out the rest of his days there, until a visit to Prospit's moon brought visions of a dire future. It is this very dire future, in fact, which has now become a dire present. In an attempt to prevent the mydian invasion of Prospit, he destroyed all the transportalizers that could have brought them to this place. All but one, which he chipped from its setting and hid away--which is how he got here. But it seems that the war party found another way to get here. He suspects that the replacement of Skaia by this Dark Planet has something to do with it.
